View Full Version : Do you ever shop at Disneyland???

Tink

I do, and I actually PLAN on shopping before each trip, down to what I am looking for, and what I am going to buy.
Do you have a favorite store at the Disneyland Resort? Maybe a place you always buy something?
I have a few favorites:
The Crystal Shop in New Orleans Square at Disneyland - I never leave without buying SOMETHING here. This year it was a 50th Anniversary crystal paperweight.
Off the Page in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot at California Adventure. This place is one I never miss. They carry artwork, books, and ceramics in addition to other 'treasures'. This year, I purchased several books, and my clock here. They also ship home, and really package carefully! I will never worry about buying fragile stuff here and having it shipped, I was really impressed. Even the books were placed between pieces of cardboard to protect them and the covers.
World of Disney is the third place I try to never miss going into and always buy something. This year, I bought a sculpture among other items and had them shipped home. I was not thrilled with the packaging from this store. While everything arrived intact, it just was not protected like the items from off the page.
With all the different places to shop at Disneyland I often hit more, such as the Emporium and the other shops on Main Street, but the three mentioned above you can almost guarantee will get my business every time I go to Disneyland.
What are your favorites? Is there a wonderful shop I am missing out on? If you have read my trip reports you know how much I love to shop at Disneyland, so share your treasures with me please!

We mostly shopped at the World of Disney. Mainly because we could go there and not think we were using precious disney time .

We also liked Build a Bear and the Lego shop in DTD.

I enjoyed the Emporium & all the little shops on Main Street, but did most of our shopping at World of Disney.

I shop a lot at Disneyland. Well, I did when I was in CA -- LOL! My ILs do too and go there all the time. As for me, my absolutely favourite place is the store that sells "Nightmare Before Christmas" stuff. I call it "the Jack store" -- I don't even know if it has a name, but I love that place. I have so much stuff from that store. I realized that recently while unpacking -- ROFL!
Awww -- this is the best time of the year to go to Disneyland. Once they get the Christmas decorations up, I mean. I love going on the Haunted Mansion when they deck it out for "Nightmare Before Christmas". I'm a big fan of that movie.
It will be weird for us not having access to Disneyland like we have all our lives. It was a 2 hour drive for us, but we were AP members and could go anytime we liked. Now it's quite a drive for us, so that will take some time getting used to.

That'll be a hard part Rena (Haunted Mansion is also my favorite and my little one is a Jack Skellington fan, she's 2 and I have no idea why!)
This site makes up for it too (we were once 2 hours away as well...), you can live vicariously through other folks' trips!

Yep Rena, stick with us - you will find that it really helps! And Montana isn't that far away. Hop on a plane and it is about 2 hours. If you change planes in Denver be sure to let us know!

If I were at my old house, it would take me 2 hours to drive. :hehe:

I have to agree with Rena, The Nightmare Before Christmas store is always a stop for us. Or at least was since we moved to IN from AZ. The Emporium and World of Disney were other favorites. The kids also liked to go to the Pirates of the Caribbean store. While we did go into other shops, these are the ones that we always stopped and shopped at every trip. Oh and there's the Greetings From California shop in California Adventure too.

I always have to stop at the crystal store in New Orleans square too! It's my favorite. My husband gets one of those mint jullup things while I look. It's been a while since we made that trip!

Sharon!!!! You and Tink/Leanne have got to talk - that's her favorite as well. Check out the main page - her Little Dose of Disney article called House of Mouse! She's a Disney fanatic and loves that stuff, you'd enjoy talking with her about the crystal stuff!!!

Tink
11-15-2006, 03:14 PM
Sharon - are you my long lost sister? That is also MY favorite store at Disneyland. I was so bummed in June as I never even went in there! I definitely am planning on going in December and have plans to make a new crystal purchase.
I was just telling Shawna today about my Swarovski Crystal Sorcerer Mickey that I got there a few years ago.
Wow I love that store!

Disney5

Sharon, you and Leanne have GOT to talk crystals, you two are gonna love each other!!!!
Now, the funny thing - every single time I see this topic come up it cracks me up - because I have to say - did someone post this especially for Leanne? lol....

lol, if it's shiny I love it! I actully was hired to work part-time there but then I got pregnant so I didn't. Funny thing is, for about 2 years disney was sending me passes each quarter as if I was an employee. The shop is actully owned by a company outside of Disney but you still get the benifits of a cast member.
Anyway, I love the stuff. I also love Lenox.

Disney5

Wow Sharon! THAT is incredible - free passes!!!! I want to work at Disneyland!!!!

Tink
11-16-2006, 10:51 AM
I have always wanted to work at Disneyland.
Yes, neither Crystal shop in Disneyland are owned by Disney - which is why they don't take any of the shopping coupons except the one specifically for their shop.
Too bad you are not still getting those free passes!

Wiggles4
11-18-2006, 07:26 AM
It took them about 2 years to figure out the problem. I felt bad for taking the passes and I was going to call but then a friend of mine that is an engineer for Disney said not to worry, they wouldn't miss the passes. And my husband I think called me insane.

Not at all Sharon, I think you're a lot like Leanne and me - a bit too honest. We'd both probably call them to let them know it happened, just out of guilt and a stomach that won't quit rolling until you do it!

When i lived out there, we would always go to 2 places...Off the Page (for a hand drawn cell...theones that you can get the watch artists to draw..) and Marceline's. I had, had, had to have my mutant rice krispy treats covered in chocolate and a few other goodies. the apples are to DIE for at marcelines...I think I found something here that equals them, but....i still miss Marceline's dearly.

We'd also go into the emporium. DH got me a pooh bear the year we got our annual passes. Now,we're so far away, we had to let them lapse...Man, I'm missing DL right now...

Disney5

Apples? I haven't tried these - like candy ones, caramel ones? Let me know and I'll try them in February!

kileigh7
11-25-2006, 03:23 AM
They were these amazing chocolate and carmel apples. They had plain carmel, and chocolate dipped ones. the chocolate ones have a layer of carmel under them...and they're SOOO yummy.

if you want a really super yummy apple, rocky mountain Chocolate facotory has an "apple pie apple" which is to die for. If you're in my neighborhood (upstate NY) I'll take you over to the chocolate gecko and get you one of her apples. Homade carmel and chocolate. to DIE for. If you wan to try one, I know Lissa will ship! LOL!

Where in upstate NY are you, if you don't mind me asking? I'm originally from Hopewell Junction which is near Wappenger Falls, Fishkill, Poughkeepsie.

We have Rocky Mtn. Chocolate Factory here too and I agree, that apple pie apple rocks! My favorite one is the apple dipped in caramel then in white chocolate. I think I may need to get ome today!

Disney5
11-25-2006, 01:35 PM
Kileigh - does she have a website I can order from? Or you can give me a phone number. We had some here at Apple Hill CA - every possible type of caramel/candy/chocolate apple - amazing...!!!!!
It's been so long since I did the Rocky Mountain Chocolates - but my old stores and more are close to my house once we move so I'll try that since you recommended it!!! Yum!
Speaking of great finds - there is a company I saw on the food channel - petes Gourmet - the website address is just that too. They make these home-made marshmallows - yummy to eat and/or for hot chocolate! Last year I got them for Christmas Eve for us and the niece/nephews and they were the biggest hit - so cool and yummmmmmm!!!!

I'm in Niskayuna, NY. It's about 20 minutes from Albany, but I know Wappinger's falls well. I have friends up there.

As for Lissa's web site, she's www.chocolategecko.com. She does ship, and the phone number is on there. If you want apples, I would call her. Her whole staff is just wonderful. I adore them. Also, if you're goingto order from her, try the Chai Buddahs and the carmel butterflies..as well as Tropical Storm truffles. Everything she makes is wicked yummy! If she asks who sent you, tell her it's Laura who she made chocolate lollies for her son's bday and used to go to the periwinkle sheep :) (that's me..)

Oh, and you better do it fast..I didn't think it would come this fast, but she's closing down because she wants to get back to the non profit world. I knew she was thinking about it, but she was never serious. She's shutting down 12/24. She is amazing...so, I highly suggest you get something from her. Everything is delcious!!

man..that plaza is going tobe empty. the yarn shop closed and now she's closing. there's only goingto be a yoga center there...oh, boy...

It's all absolutley amazing. I'd just call her and order and demand she stays open for ever and ever and ever. Once you taste her stuff, you'll be a chocolate snob. we're going to go on the 2nd and visit. you better believe that I'm going to get some things from her to send out. its just sad that she feels like she has to do this...and it's not a financial thing, either. sad, sad, sad...

Wiggles1
11-25-2006, 02:54 PM
Awww, it's too bad she's closing. Looks like she has some great stuff. Now you've all got me thinking about CANDY -- LOL! Christmas candy -- oh geez, now I want some KING LEO peppermint sticks. Those are the best -- soft like buttermints! Mmmmm ... I usually find them at Trader Joe's or World Market. I don't think we have either of those places here in MT. Sometimes I'd buy an extra tin for Rick to take for work, but they're usually gone within an hour. All the deputies would be walking around with peppermint sticks sticking out of their mouths and a bunch in their hands -- LOL! They're really good!http://www.kingleocandy.com/ BTW -- King Leo has apples too, but I've never had any. :)

LOL! Those sound so wicked good! I'm just going to have to hold off until Saturday when I can go and have a bit of fun there. DH and I were talking about marceline's again tonight...and has convinced me to try and make the mutant rice krispie treats and use my candy melts and cover them in chocolate...Man...that's going to be hilarious! LOL!

so, can you even get anything close to the homade candy canes from Main Street USA shipped to you? Now I'm thinking in that vein because I was over at Starbucks and they had these adorable stockings filled with peppermint sticks...and I was thinking abotu the candy canes on main street....argh.

Yes you can- you can get ANYTHING from Disneyland delivered to you - call Delivears - the number is on the main page here under the Disneyland Guides/phone numbers list. So, if you've got a craving there you CAN take care of it!
Now I'm just eager to try your place Laura! What a bummer that she's that good and shutting down! Can't she just hire a couple helpers and keep that as well as do her non-profit work??? I hate to whine, but doesn't she know how much we women need good chocolate???????

kileigh7
11-26-2006, 02:41 AM
I know! Lissa is just so good at what she does...but man...
The killer is that she's been trying to sell the business for oh, 5 months now...and she's been trying to sell it to anyone. Even her help! She said she wanted to stay on and make chocolate a few days a week, because she loves to.
But, I wonder, wonder wonder if she'll do it on a private basis...hrm....
But, get to her. she's amazing!
Oh, and thanks for the heads up on Deliverars! I'm going to have to make some phone calls soon...LOL!

You can't get ANYTHING at Disneyland shipped to you - and NO candy canes.
Disneyland DOES NOT ship food. That includes: candy, coffee or tea mixes, or any edible product.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Disney5
11-26-2006, 01:23 PM
Leanne - they did ship the Mickaroni and Cheese to me and that's edible and they also shipped some lollipops - just within the past week, I got them for the kids for stocking stuffers as part of the big Christmas surprise about our February trip.

Wiggles1
11-26-2006, 01:46 PM
That's interesting that Disneyland doesn't ship food items. I looked on their website and couldn't find anything either. I guess I'll have to resort to asking my MIL to ship me stuff from there. She goes to DL often enough, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm still having a craving for one of those sickeningly sweet chocolate coconut patties shaped like Mickey Mouse. Where is your MIL when you really need her -- ROFL!
:hehe:

Disney5
11-26-2006, 01:50 PM
I'm thinking it may just be perishable items - like chocolates that would melt or already prepared stuff. The other stuff has a zillion year shelf life and maybe that's why they were able to send me my stuff.

Disney5
11-26-2006, 02:08 PM
Oh and don't forget - there are so many shipping and shopping services in the L.A. area - anything you can't get directly, you can always call a shopping service to get for you and they will package it appropriately and get it to you no problem! You never have to take no for an answer, if you want it, there's a way.

Yellow pages online will be a great place to go if you need these services.

Tink
11-26-2006, 06:04 PM
thanks Shawna, you may be right about it being perishible stuff only! When I last asked delivears (about 2 months ago) they told me no food, period. Glad to see they have changed that!

that's it..I'mgoing to have to find a way to get someone to get it for me. I wonder if the ppl at mouseplanet could do that..I may put out a call to Adrienne...who knows! LOL!

Speaking of personal shopping...i'm heading to the gecko on Saturday...anyone desire anything from Lissa's shop?

Disney5
11-27-2006, 06:00 PM
Kileigh - go ahead and try Delivears first, my suspicion is that they may ship it to you because it's not an immediately perishable item. Then, try Marceline's directly - I don't think I've found any store I couldn't convince to send me something.

And to top it off, he sent us a care package filled with goodies from Trader Joes. We don't have those up here. So now we have enough chocolate stuff to last us while we get snowed in.

Their site says they sell exclusively through the stores and NOT online -- bummer. And there are no stores in Montana yet -- double bummer. But I still have my MIL so I can make a list and have her send stuff up to me that way. We love their peanut butter cups! Too bad I won't be able to get the perishables & frozen foods, but at least I can get some other stuff. They have a really good frozen low-fat chicken chow mein that my family really loved. What mango sauce are you talking about? There's this really great TJ's habenero salsa that I get for a chicken recipe in the crock-pot. I *think* it has mango in it. Is this what you're talking about? It makes a really good chicken dish, since it's just spicy enough, but not too much. The PB cups are great, aren't they? Now they have mini ones -- just as good! My DH sent me up a couple of boxes of TJ's chocolate tea. It sounds weird, but it's really good. It's decaf and there's just a tiny hit of coconut in it. It's really good with a bit of milk & sugar.
:)

There's a mango salsa, and a mango sauce. This is in the same row as the applesauce. It's by the apricot sauce. It's gooood..

and we love the mini pb cups...My other half buys them in bulk when he can get to a TJ's...

there's a pineapple salsa I use in the crock pot with chicken over some wild rice. It's to die for, and easy as pie :)
chocolate tea? Sounds interesting....

but what I do miss most is the yummy, yummy frozen fruit bars, that i know won't make the drive from Mass to NY...

Oh okay, I have seen the mango salsa, but I've never had it. Maybe I can have my DH bring a bunch of stuff up when he comes back up to CA for good. He's coming home for the weekend, but he's flying in & out. Then when he comes up mid-December, he'll have a truck! I might have to make a list of things for him to bring up with him.
I'd love to have your chicken recipe for the crock-pot! I'm a huge crock-pot fan and use mine all the time. I have some super easy recipes in these books called "101 Things To Do With A Slow Cooker" and "101 More Things To Do With A Slow Cooker". Great books and so easy!
I used to love Trader Joe's protein bars, but it seems they stopped selling them a few years back. I never found out why, but I thought those were so good. My girls really love TJs cheese crackers and say they're way better than Cheez-Its or Cheese Nips.
Christmastime was the best at Trader Joe's -- all those goodies! I'll miss that. :(

I do shop at Disneyland and I usually spend more than I should! LOL
My favorite store is The World of Disney. I can usually find whatever I'm looking for there. I've bought myself clothes and jewelry there. Last time I was there I bought Mickey cereal bowls and a pitcher and glasses set for the patio.
Second favorite is Pooh Corner. I like it because there's plenty of Hundred Acre Wood stuff there and I LOVE the candy shop. I don't know why it's different than the one on Main Street or Marceline's but I just like it. Although I do frequent Marceline's as well. :D
Third favorite is Pieces of Eight and Le Bat N Rouge in New Orleans Square. They are just fun to browse through. I can usually find gifts for people who really like Pirates and Nightmare Before Christmas.
Mostly I think it depends on the time of year and what I'm looking for, but I usually browse these three stores regardless. :hehe:
