Have you been to the beach with your toddler or young child?
Alex has been once, last year a few months before he turned 2. He loved to play on the sand, and the ocean he seemed to enjoy, but the undertow scared him.
We would like to go to a beach location again. Now Alex is in a phase where he doesn't like water. Could this phase possibly last more than a year?
We are trying to decide how long to be gone, and how many nights to spend in each location for next years trip to California.
Any ideas, suggestions?

We have taken Anthony to the beach a couple of times, once around 2 yrs & then again when he was about 3 1/2 yrs. He loves playing in the sand & only wanted to play "chicken" with the waves..... he would hold hands with Mike & I and we would run towards the water & then when the wave was coming in, we would turn and run towards the beach. This is a great way to get your child used to the water. This way only his feet get wet, & occassionally a bigger swell will come in & get them wetter, but as long as he feels secure he should do ok.
And the water has to be warmer in California then it is on the Oregon Coast.......BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Our kids have been to the beach a number of times. (mostly in Hawaii.. and the water is nice and warm).

Like the others mostly they enjoyed playing in the sand a whole lot. If you could get him out far enough, the kids also liked riding on the waves.. We always took them out in lifejackets, and got out far enough where we could still stand and then jumped with the waves.. they think that is great fun!
