Just want to remind all you parents of young children. A young child needs protection from the sun. A wide brimmed hat and sunscreen.
We found the perfect hat for Alex while at the Denver Zoo this year. It has a wide brim, and a little tie that we can tighten to hold it on, and he can play with that piece. If the had comes off, it doesn't get lost because of the tie.
So, perfection has been found, and I wasn't even looking for it. lol Of course, if I see a Disneyland hat even if it is identical to this one, I will purchase that.

We were in Salem 2 weeks ago & picked Anthony up the same type of hat, it was 100% cotton & a bit big for him (adult size) but I threw it in the washer & dryer & it fits him perfectly now. We didn't want his ears & back of neck to burn, those areas seem to get it the worst & sometimes get forgotten when lathering them in sunscreen (especially the tops of the ears !!)
Great Tip !!! If you think of any others, please list them......sometimes I need those gentle reminders..lol

lol Dreamer, I even took my own advice and bought MYSELF a hat. I never wear one at Disneyland, but sure need it for when working around the house.

We always have hats on, the kids just really have no choice on the matter - we have "fish belly" white skin so are really prone to burning. In fact I have several hats for the kids... we have a set of bucket hats out at the cabin, a set at my moms house and a set here plus one in the van.. I think because we live at such a high altitude that we may tend to burn a lot easier here... I know when I travelled across Canada one year, I found I didn't burn anywhere near as easily closer to sea level.

Hats and 15 - 45 sunscreen are a must, even in the backyard here.... I have a bucket hat as well as some ball caps. I am hoping to get a new one to fall in love with at Disney since yes, I will be wearing a hat while we are there.

Carole,
I am hoping the same thing. If I am gonna wear a hat at Disneyland, it needs to be a Disney hat. I will also purchase a new one for Alex to keep his skin lilly white while there. I will quickly replace the Denver Zoo hat with a Disneyland one.

Now, you have me totally curious. What altitude do you live in? I don't hear people say that very often, and living in Colorado, a few thousand feet about Denver we are pretty close to the sun. I never burn in California, but after an hour here I will be horribly burned without protection.

We are about 3,500 ft above sea level.

Carole,
Thanks for answering. I was not sure, never having been to Canada myself. But here in Colorado, where I am, we are at about 7000 feet above sea level. Yep, I know what your talking about, being closer to the sun. lol
Our cabin is well over 8000 feet, I really burn there if not careful. But in California, I rarely even put the sunscreen on and have never burned. I do put it on my feet when wearing sandals, cause I wouldn't want to burn them, but don't worry about the rest of me.

Alexander's hat was a huge hit at Disneyland. I was going to replace it with a Disney hat, but he loved his zoo hat so much. He wore it everywhere we went. We could always tell when he was nervous because he would chew on the strings that are used to keep the hat on his head.
It was also a wonderful ice breaker, and many people opened up conversations to ask if we were indeed from Colorado. That would get us talking about our state and other things.
We met many nice people, and one family that we spent a long time in line talking with are now members of this forum. We will make sure Alex has a Colorado hat next time too. It is fun to meet people from your own state while traveling.
