I took my son to see Bridge to Terabithia yesterday. It was good! I vaguely remember reading the book when I was a kid but from what I remember, the movie is pretty true to the book. Although I think that they had to condense a lot because of limited time. Also, it was SAD!! Talk about needing a box of tissues! I won't say too much because I don't want to spoil it. But I liked it. I would caution parents NOT to take little kids. It is rated PG and there were parts my son didn't like. The sad parts are complicated and may be hard for younger kids to deal with. I recommend viewing the movie first before deciding if your child can see it. I would say the child should at least be 7 or 8 but I would feel more comfortable taking a 10-year-old or older to see it. Oh and I highly recommend NOT depending upon the previews to tell you what the movie is about because the previews don't give you a clue what it's really about. I recommend looking it up on the internet and doing a little research. If you have time, read the book. That is my two cents about this movie. Enjoy!

Awesome. I loved the book as a kid, but I didn't like the original movie all that much. I've been waiting for someone to do the book justice! Lol. I'll be watching it eventually. I can't wait:D

I'm so glad to hear a review of that movie!
I was really confused because I read the book a few years ago in my Children's Literature class and the previews for the movie were NOT what I remembered from the book. If you say it is really sad, then THAT is what I remember about the book. I think I would enjoy the movie but my girls aren't ready for that kind of plot just yet.
Thanks for the info!!

The previews don't give a good representation of the movie. They only focus on the cool special effects and fantasy parts. The fantasy parts were pretty well done, but the previews are misleading because they make you think that the movie is all about fantasy. But it's not. Yah you may want to wait until it comes out on DVD or go without your girls because it's very emotional and I can imagine the questions that may come up!

Thanks so much for the input! I really thought about taking Alex to see this, but decided after seeing the PG rating that I would hold off. So now, I will wait for the DVD, watch it first and then decide for him.
I definitely want to see it myself though. And I never remember hearing/seeing anything about that book. Is it still in print?

Oh yah, it's still in print or reprint. It was originally published in 1977. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that they brought it back because of the movie. You can easily find it on the book websites. I quickly looked it up on barnesandnoble.com. If you do consider buying it, I suggest buying the original book and not the movie tie-in. Enjoy! :)

I read the book about 4 years ago and absolutely hated it. Maybe because I was too young to understand, but everyone in my class hated it as well. Maybe I should read it again or see the movie.

Sara - if you have the book, try it again. You may like it now.
