I appreciate all the amazing memories I've had growing up with Disney movies. I look forward to my nephew and my own children in the future growing up with them too!

I love this thread - thanks!
I'd have to thank him for the memories from childhood and the special family times with my parents. I'd have to thank him for the wonderful movies that I continue to love and will get to share with my daughter. I'd have to thank him for Disneyland and such a special place to take vacations to and let everything else be forgotten! And I'd have to thank him for these boards, without that inspiration for Leanne and Andy, we wouldn't have all these wonderful people coming together and enjoying each other.

Agreed Shawna! Without this one man and his mouse, who knows how the world would be like. We probably wouldnt even cross paths. Think about all the things that wouldnt exsist! He was also an intelligent man(well, you kinda have to be to create a cultural revolution:D)
I think this is one of my favourite quotes from him...just too funny:D
All right. I'm corny. But I think there's just about a-hundred-and-forty-million people in this country that are just as corny as I am.oh and:I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty. Call the child "innocence". The worst of us is not without innocence, although buried deeply it might be. In my work I try to reach and speak to that innocence, showing it the fun and joy of living; showing it that laughter is healthy; showing it that the human species, although happily ridiculous at times, is still reaching for the stars.

I can't imagine my life without Disney!!! I love the memories of growing up with Disney movies and sharing classics as well as new movies with my family. I also can't imagine a more special place to share the magic of childhood with my children then at Disneyland!!
Thanks Walt!
I have a Thanks Walt in my A Little Dose of Disney column. You guys should all check it out! It is on the main site, and the link is on the left.
I think you will enjoy it. And see how I really feel about the Man who made the Mouse!

I appreciate the wonderful educational series he developed like the Vanishing Prairie and there was another one set in the Rocky Mountains (with bears and mountain lions). I think it developed my love of PBS and documentaries. These were often shown as shorts before a movie (and it was billed as a double feature). Is anyone here old enough to remember double features!?:D
Thanks for posting such a thought provoking question.

I read Leanne's column! Good stuff, glad to hear what you think Tink:)
Another quote from WD. It;s his speech from opening day of DL:
To all that come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America; with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.
I don't care if the company has become a money-making machine, this is what Disney was truly about which is why I keep my faith in it.

For the last 9 years I have taught Spanish and I always love to use Disney films. I use Disney characters in my examples and all sorts of things. Becuase no one is afriad of Mickey, or Nemo, or Cinderella. When a student talks about Mickey in any language, they will try, because Mickey is safe. In fact, I won an award because of one of my workshops called: "Finding Nemo: Fishing for the Standards" (Nemo became a bit of an obsession for awhile. There is no 12 steps program for it either.)
Now I am a World History teacher teacher and my theme is "Plundering our way through history". Yep, you guessed it...Pirates! (yeah I teach High School). The kids loves this. They bring in Pirates memorablia all the time. It is something they love. Its fun.
Disney is something that doesn't care where you live, or which parent you live with, or any of that. Disney puts everyone in my class on equal footing.
Thank you for that Walt.
Also, thank you for creating parks that people can go to from all over the world and forget about all the craziness that is in the world today. The fantasy that exist because of Disney is truely awe inspiring.

That's an awesome story TeacherCat! Whatever you can do to make learning exciting for kids is wonderful! Disney definitely helps do that too!

I love that Walt was a father who loved his kids so much that he created magic for them and then shared it with us.
I love that he believed in the impossible and made it reality.
my wish is that all the people of the world would grasp a little of that magic and make the world outside those gates a safer, happier place for our children and ourselves.
By remembering the legacy that has been given to us by a man that died way too soon, perhaps we can be driven to make a part of the world a happier place, like a small patch of land containing orange trees that blossomed into the happiest place on earth because of one mans love.
Walt, I thank you for the fun I've had and the adventures I look forward to with my wife and daughter inside your dream.
