For the most part, I liked the movie. I did find some problems with it and I had trouble following what was going on. I think they spent too much time trying to address little plot issues without really developing any important plot points. I found myself going, huh? And what happened that caused them to do that or go there or decide that? I also thought there were a few things they could've done without and if they would've eliminated those things (like the whole Davy Jones' Locker weirdness and the whole thing with Davy Jones and Calypso) they could've focused on more important plot points. I didn't get why the Calypso thing really had anything to do with the movie because they had all this drama around it and then when they released her, the storm thing happened but that was it. If they were going to go there, they should've done a little more with it to actually make it worthwhile. I did like the end and I do hope that they consider making some spin offs or something. Also I liked the happy ending feel. I'm definitely glad I sat through the end credits so that I could see how things turned out. I was shocked when I saw what had happened to Will so knowing that things turn out okay is helpful. And another question I have is, how did the dog get there? Last movie he was being worshipped or whatever by the cannibal people. Anyway, this movie was definitely my least favorite of the 3. I will buy it on DVD to complete my set and hopefully when I watch it again, I'll appreciate it a little more and catch things that I missed the first time.

Does anyone think that maybe the beginning of the movie, is a foreshadowing for Pirtates 4. It would have to take some things in to account:
I have seen the movie 2 times now, but probably won't see it again until DVD time. I do like the possibility that a new movie can go at least 3 different ways--- either the way of of Jack, Barbosa, or Will and Elizabeth. I for one wouldn't mind a Barbosa story, as I thought Geoffrey Rush does an awesome job. This would nmake it possible to do if only some of the actors want to come back.
********** SPOILERS BELOW *************
Lord Beckett would have had to survived the onslaught by the Pearl and the Flying Dutchman.
What if that who had one of the pirate coins for the pieces of 8 (and was hung), was the same kid shown after the credits? This was suggested to me by Kristi, and I think this is something to consider.

The only problem with the foreshadowing would be that they had promoting this was the end with Pirates 3. And maybe they hadn't thought of extenting the triology at the time of production. But I have heard Johnny Depp said he would do Pirates 4, 5, & 6. Also the boy was alone with no family. You would have thought he would have been saved.
The child that was hanged at the beginning started the song that called the council. But who's coin was that? Who did it belong to? Elizabeth had the necklace, Capt Jack had his charm. I can't remember who had a coin. I figured the coin at the beginning was just a pirate coin but then they showed the boy later with Elizabeth at the very end. Maybe they didn't expect us to recognize him all cleaned up.
I guess we will have to wait another 2 years to find out if they make a new one.

I liked the movie but it was needlessly convoluted with plots that didn't need to be there and took away from the overall picture. I agree with the calipso plot, they built it up, she swore to destroy the council and then it fizzed into nothing. The imaginary jacks started to get on my nerves as they truley held no purpose.
The dog got there by sea turtles, so sayeth keith richards when asked how the dog got there in the movie.
They need to return to what made 1 and 2 so fantastic.

ok, i'm at a lost - what happened after the credits? i didn't know there was something going on after that, so i didn't stay. :(
i didn't really like the 2nd one all that much, so i didn't pay attention. so it was a little confusing for me when i watched the 3rd one, cause i couldn't remember who was who!! lol. :P
i didn't like how there were so many things in the movie that were predictable - it kind of made the movie fizzle a little.
i kind of liked the multiple jacks - it provided some comedic relief in the movie.
Daisy - after the credits, you see 10 years later - when Will can walk on land again.
I saw this movie with Elaine - and we both thought the child after the credits was the same one being hung at the beginning.
I could have completely done without Calypso - that was all stupid, and the movie is so long, taking it out would have helped.
Kevin - you are right, if that was the same kid, then the East Indian Trading company didn't lose all of its high ranking officials in the last fight. It will be interesting to see what they come up with next.

I was talking to my hubby about the movie and he informed me that to understand the Calypso thing, you have to have some knowledge of mythology. Does anyone know anything about this myth? Apparently Calypso is what sailors, pirates, etc called the whirlpool. I don't get what it had to do with the plot of the movie, though. Any thoughts?

Hmmm....I guess the whirlpool started right when Calypso exploded into all those little stone/crabs. Maybe that's the connection. The Calypso scene was weird, and I couldn't inderstand a word she said after she turned into a giant,...and I'm certain there was some relavence in what she was saying. Maybe that's why parts of the story seemed to disconnect.
This was definately my least favorite Pirates. I would only see it again if DH really wanted to see it, and he sounds pretty luke warm.
I swear that the boy at the end (after credits) looked just like the one who was hung, so I went to IMDB. Young Will Turner is played by Dominic Scott Kay, and he is credited just with that role. At the end, there are nine actors credited as Singing Gallows Pirates, and most are unknown so there is no bio or pics.
I really disliked the Purgatory scenes....something out of a Ingmar Bergman film. At least when I go to a foreign art house film, I'm in that mindset and prepared for Death playing chess on the beach. This was just so out of place in this movie. The multiple Jacks were annoying!
Since the very last scene happens 10 years later, I'm guessing Pirates 4 will not address Jack and his search for the Fountain of Youth (which could be a cool story), since surely he would have either failed or succeeded in 10 years time and will be on to other adventures. So many holes in this story!
The thing I liked best was the Green Flash being worked into the story. Having grown up in Hawaii this is a real phenomena, but not often seen. I never did experience it in my 12 years there, but we didn't live overlooking the ocean, so I was probably only in the right area at the right time once every couple of months (leeward or Waikiki side). Here's more info on it for anyone who's an info geek like me:) If you scroll down there are some picture.

One last rant on the multiple Jacks...
I really disliked it when they were miniture and sat on Jacks shoulders. It reminded me of the cheap laugh trick of using miniture good and evil's sitting on Fred Flinstone, or Homer Simpsons shoulders. It just was too out of place.

I have seen the green flash. It happened after our 7.4 earthquake in california. It was pretty spectacular

Keith, did it look anything like it did in the movie? I would love to see one.
Keith - that is awesome! I would love to see that!
Elaine - right with you on the multiple Jacks. Drove me nuts.
We do have one member who loved it. Mynde - where are you?

I can't believe I missed the ending! I ALWAYS make my family stay till the lights come on. The one time I have to pee like crazy (all that water and the LONG time to wait!)....Darn it!!! So the end was Elizabeth with a Will Jr (I guess that would be the III)??? What happened to Will? Was he tentically? I wish I'd seen it! Anyway! I loved the movie. It was darker than I'd hoped for. I too didn't like the Jacks. Well, at first it was amusing...but then they just kept coming back! I HATED the good/bad angel on his shoulder. The whole Calypso thing had to be addressed because there were hints to that whole love story in 2. They had to resolve it. But it was too skimmed over...she is a woman scorned (he condemned her to that body etc) and all she can come up with is a whirlpool to hell? :) But I did like the coming together of all the pirate council. I especially loved their "pieces of eight"....the eyeball especially!!!! Also, I am hazy on the ride at DL but the one part...when it's all black...I think it's right after they tip the boat, before the earth shifts...very quietly and growing louder you hear "Dead Men Tell No Lies" which I know is from the ride...but the rest of the chanting and music and laughing etc must also be from the ride?! I watched an interview with Orlando Bloom who also said he'd do more...I think he said he'd do Pirates 23. He loved it! I liked how the two soldiers became pirates in the end. I thought one died...when all the fighting is happening one soldier catches a sword and doesn't know what to do with it and Jones stabs him with it..I thought that was the skinny guy...but then I was relieved to see him later. :) I agree with everyone that it was disjointed...and had too many plots...but I still loved it!!!
Mynde - no, Will was in his normal body. That is one thing that both Elaine and I are confused about. If all the pirates got their bodies back after Davy died, then why do they still have to be on the ship, and can only be on land one day every 10 years?
Yes, Elizabeth was with a young boy, Will's son.
If they do Pirates 4, it will be interesting to see where they go with it. I don't see them skipping ahead 10 years but we will see. While this was not one of my favorite movies, I will still go see another one if it comes up.
Besides Johnny and Orlando are way too cute to miss on the big screen!

I love Orlando!!! Especially as Will Turner! :) They were only weird fish things cause Davey Jones did not do his job in the beginning. He wasn't taking care of the dead like he was supposed to. So he was cursed to be fishy. Bootstrap Bill had a choice to stay or go...he chose to stay...so I guess the others did too?! I don't understand why the captain of the ship has to have his heart cut out??? I mean...I know that's what Jones did...but why must everyone?? I understand that he had to become the captain but why can't the captain have a heart?

You all have some great questions. I wonder about a lot of that stuff myself. Yah I wasn't crazy about the different Jacks either. I didn't get the whole crab thing. There was too much weirdness I could've done without. Will was very hot in this movie! Especially at the end. :D

Agreed (about Will being hot) ;)
I think Will had to have his heart cut out because it was the only way to keep him alive, but not sure.
I have always loved Orlando - since the Lord of the Rings trillogy. Johnny Dep I have loved since 21 Jump Street. lol Ahhhh, those young girl crushes.

Sorry, been gone a few days fighting computer invaders. The green flash I saw was a lot like the one in the movie. It was erielly beautiful.
Davy Jones cut out his own heart because he could not bear the pain his love of Calypso caused him and the pain of his betrayal of her. Will's heart had to be cut out because he who stabs the heart of davy jones must replace that heart with his own and become the captain of the dutchman. Elizabeth's father told her that he had learned this, when they passed after he died.

ok, went to watch the movie again, and this time stayed till the end - the real end and was a little dissapointed at how short the last scene was. but liked how it was on a happy note. it kind of changes your thoughts on what coulda/might happen next . . .
if you remember, everytime someone was dying around davey jones, he asked them if they "feared death", and if they did, they had a chance to join the flying dutchman. i think the crew all has that choice - to "cheat" death by becoming a part of the flying dutchman crew. i guess with will the captain, he was allowed to release anyone he felt like?
i still didn't understand what calypso said, and i was trying really really hard to figure it out, knowing that it was coming. i'll try google it again, and see if this time i can come up with something.
oh, and the coins aren't really part of the nine pieces of eight - elizabeth actually had the necklace with the bell that the chinese pirate gave him, not a necklace with a coin on it. the pirates were broke, so they used "pieces of whatever junk they had".
