Let begin by tell you who is on the trip with me. Tanya, she has been recently been made an elementary principal. She is bright and happy like me. Ladawn, Math teacher, she had never been to Disney she has 3 wild boys at home. Jennifer, Special Ed. teacher, she is terrified of flying and pretty much any "different" situation. And Connie, she is a Math teacher as well and a grandmother. She is the mom of a former Miss Arkansas. So our intened purpose is to attend an educational conference. We were hoping to squeeze in some Disney in our down time.
We get up at 3:00am to leave from Little Rock, AR at 5:00am. Our goal was to be in Orlando by 11:00 Magic Kingdom by 2:00pm. So the first mishap...the plane leaving Little Rock has a toliet issue and must be repaired before we leave. Once we arrive in Dallas we have 15 minutes to get to the gate. We run... They plane left...early..and we weren't on it. So after trying to find someone who could help (lots of people behind the podiums, no one that could help). We found our way to the gate where an Orlando flight was leaving at 9:15am. We wait. Then the announcement comes, the plane is broken and wee be repaired by 11:00am. So we wait. At 11:00 am they announce they can't repair this plane and they are finding a new one. They have no idea when that might happen. We find another flight out of Dallas. We go to that gate. Well, that plane is also delayed. Apparently it was hit by a bird on its landing. Thus we are delayed for repairs. Finally at 3:00pm we are allowed on the the plane. As we being to taxi out, all the power goes off on the plane. Not to worry, they just get a tow back and jump start the plane. Once again, we are on our way! About 45 minutes in the air, we all begin to fell HOT. VERY VERY HOT. The piolet then announces we are heading back due to maintance issues. When we landed we firsted noticed how fast we were landing, then we noticed all the emergency vehicles. Then we notice the smoke. YEP! WE WERE ON FIRE! So off that plane and we wait. Finally we get on a plane and make it to Olando areound 2:300am.
Needless to say, we missed our day at Magic Kingdom. I will write more later.

Remind me to NEVER fly with you. I have taken quite a few flights in my time and I have only ever had a slight delay, longest 1 hour, never had to get off, never had a cancelled and certainly never had one on fire. Glad you are all safe and sound.

In my defense, I have never had any problems with flying until these recent experiences with American Airlines. I think I'm going to be sticking with Southwest for awhile...:)

Kat!
How terrible! I'm glad you just finally got there. I don't think it's American - I think it is flying ANYWHERE this summer. The Wall Street Journal is full of articles about how bad air travel is right now, and especially this summer. There is just no slack in the system anymore, and when you miss your flight for any reason - it's VERY difficult to get rebooked. If a flight is delayed 30-45 min and you have a connection that you miss, the average traveler will be delayed between 12-36 hrs to get a new flight.

Whew! You were in the thick of it!

That is such bad luck especially on your Magic Kingdom day
