Last rides, shopping, and a sad goodbye

So today was our last day at Walt Disney World so the morning was kind of sad to begin with and became worse as we finished breaking down our campsite. We were in a hurry because it was early morning Extra Magic Hours for Disney Hollywood Studios and we wanted to get over there and get on Toy Story and Rockin? one last time. We get there right after EMH started and we head straight for Toy Story for fast passes (the line was already an hour wait), grab fast passes and then head over to Rockin?. The wait time was only 20 min so we hop in line. On this trip we had a plan for the picture the ride takes. We got lucky and got a front seat of one of the cars so you could get a shot of us, right when we took off we did the classic rocker tongue out and the our hands thrown up in the rocker sign, you know index finger and pinky up, other fingers down, the head banger stuff. Anyways, we got that picture because it came out so good with us doing that, and it fit as we were on Rockin? Roller Coaster, they even provided the rock music!

After Rockin? we head towards to other side of the park and stop at Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We loved that show, it was really very well done and effects are awesome. After that we continued on to Backstage Tour, it said it was only a 25 min wait but I think we waited closer to 35 min. If you haven?t ridden this ride, you?ve got to ride it at least once, especially if you?re a movie buff. They had props from all sorts of movies scattered around their bone yard and you go by Walt?s plane as well as through the costume area of the studios. It?s a longer ride but worth it. Just a little word of advice, if you don?t want to get wet ride in the front or on the right side of the cars. I didn?t, I was in the back on the left and got wet. It wasn?t bad and I was dry I think before we even got off the ride, but just a little heads up for ya?ll.

Now it?s about time for our Toy Story fast passes so we head over and ride that for the last time, Jake still killed me (still cheating and getting my high score stuff from my easter eggs). We had sometime to kill before our 50?s Prime Time reservations so we just wandered around through the shops until the time came around. We checked in for our reservations like 20 min early and were seated within 15 min so that was nice. We sit down and our ?Cousin? comes over and plops the basket with silverware and napkins down in front of Jake and says, it?s your turn to set the table. Jake, good man that he is, didn?t argue with her, just began setting the table (I had already made sure he took his hat off when he sat down, maybe I shouldn?t have?). I had the chicken potpie, sooo good! Let me tell you,the chunks of chicken and veggies in there are huge! Jake did eat my celery and onions though. Jake had a club sandwich that he says was good as well. Now, these portions are huge! If we hadn?t have been starving I wouldn?t haven?t been able to finish my meal. We also both got another glow drink, Electric Lemonade and Maui-Wowie (I think) with the glowing ice cubes (we came home with 4 of them). At the end of the meal Jake and I split a wonderful carmel sundae.

After 50?s PT we headed over to Downtown Disney to grab the last of our souvenirs at World of Disney. We got a lot of stuff but sadly couldn?t find my jacket I wanted or a pin that Jake wanted, I knew they had both at Mouse Gears in EPCOT so after we purchased the stuff we found at WOD we headed back to EPCOT. We got in and headed straight for Mouse Gears, got a shirt for my mom, my jacket, Jake?s pin, his tube of flavored sugar (the pixie dust stuff, he loves it and has to get a tube of it whenever we go to Disney), an ornament (didn?t like the ones they had at WOD and we were not going back to Magic Kingdom to the Christmas shop there), a throw you got for $20 if you spent more than $50, something for Belle, oh and a $40 cookbook! We didn?t realize the cookbook was that much until after we were walking to the car, oh well, got some good recipes from not only Walt Disney World but Disneyland Resort as well as the Disney Cruise Line so I guess it was worth the $40 we spent on it. Of course we?ve been home for how long and I think I?ve opened it twice and have to cook anything in it, oh well at least I can look at the pictures and say, I think I?m going to make that today.

So after finishing up at Mouse Gears we jumped in the car, filled up the gas and headed home. It?s about 3:30 pm and we?re off to a good start. The original plan was to drive just past the GA boarder and stay in a hotel and then finish the drive the next day, instead around 530ish Jake says, lets just drive it all the way through if there?s no penalty for canceling the hotel room. So I call the hotel and what do you know, if you cancel before 6 there?s no penalty so we canceled. We made it home right before midnight and man it was good to sleep in our own bed! I was sad we were home, but glad to be in my own bed, if that makes any sense.

So, final thoughts on the trip, we had a blast! We did push ourselves a little too much (like going back and forth between all the big rides 50 thousand times) and ran off little sleep but we figured this would be the only trip we?ll be able to do that on. While I love Disneyland, I found that I loved Walt Disney World almost as much. I did compare a lot of things from both parks (which drove Jake crazy) but even the rides I liked better at Disneyland I still enjoyed at Walt Disney World. I did miss the Matterhorn, Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin, Indian Jones, and California Screamin? but what can you do? After the first half of the day of being a little disoriented in the Magic Kingdom (nothing is in the right place! LOL) we got our bearings and even Jake knew where we were in the park. It got to the point that we could actually split up, navigate through the crowd and just have a meeting point. We never got out of sight of the other one, it just was easier for us to do that and it helped that both of us got to know the parks pretty good.

We are planning to go down in Dec 2010 with hopefully Jake?s family and my sister and kids (if they?re still stationed stateside) and we?re also hoping to have a little one ourselves at that point. I would love to get in 2 mini-trips in next year, I just don?t see it happening with everything we have going on. I already miss being at Walt Disney World and I can?t wait to go again!

Sounds like a great last day. I am surprised you didn't ride anything at Epcot. I would have insisted one last ride. ;)

I know exactly what you mean about being home and in your own bed. It's bitter sweet.
Sounds like you had a fantastic time! Now...you have plans to go back again.....but if you had to choose between DL and DW which would you do?
We did the same comparisons the whole time at DW. At DL it's this way, at DL it's that way....we tried to make a mental note of all the differences on rides etc so I could write up a comparison thing...I never did (I don't think) and now I can't remember which one was at which park! lol.
Did you search for any of mine and Joshua's obsessions.....Hidden Mickey's???

We didn't search for any hidden Mickey's, we have at DL though. If I had to pick between the two resorts, I think at this time I would pick WDW, just so I could finish everything there. We want to go back to DL when they get California Adventures done so we're kinda waiting on that to happen before we head west.

And Kristi, we did almost go see how long the wait was for Test Track but decided against it because we figured it'd be a pretty long wait.

So, no dreams other than the one Jake bestowed on you??

Oh duh, I meant to tell ya'll.....nope, no dreams. We saw the dream squad once, we were getting of Kilamanjaro and heading to our breakfast reservations and they were walking towards the exit. We saw a ton of dream ears though, especially in EPCOT.

Not even mini dreams that standard cast members do?

Nope, nada. We didn't really talk to the cast members too much though we did a lot of going back and forth to ride the big rides as much as possible.
