It's cold today. In the 30's this morning with gusts and humidity. The crowds were also insane.

We arrived at MK and decided to do the Race Cars. I waited on a bench while Glen and Linnea went on this ride. People watching was interesting. I watched while a couple allowed their three year old to stomp through the flowers in an elevated planter. Also listened to a couple complain about another adult family member on the trip. Wow.

It was so crazy we decided we needed a break at Tom Sawyers Island. This was fun. We must have gone on the barrel bridge 5 times. Linnea was a little spooked by the cave but she was a trooper.

After we left the Island, we went on Pirates, and that was pretty much it. The crowds were making us crazy, so we decided to take the Monorail to the Poly for lunch at Kona.

While boarding the monorail to the TTC, a man in his 40's (there with his elderly parents) through a hissy fit. Apparently he was walking with a cane and had wanted to board one of the handicap compartments. A CM had told him he could board a regular compartment as they reserved handicap ones for those with wheel chairs and EMV's (and there was no problem getting a seat this time of day). Anyway he made huge stink and demanded to see a manager. So another CM arranged for a manager (gave him the managers name) to meet him at the TTC.

It was apparent to Glen and I that this guy was a total jerk. His parents (in there 70's) were totally enabling him; "Yes son, it's horrible the way you were treated. No one should be treated like that." He was also loaded down with shopping bags including some largely wrapped framed artwork with "art" and "fragile" stamped allover the packaging. He struck me as a spoiled little brat still living with his folks.

When we arrived at the TTC, his parents nudged him, and he said "I shouldn't have to hunt him down, he will need to find me." When Glen and I exited we noticed a manager eagerly glancing up and down to find the disgruntled guest. We told him which compartment he was in. I added, "He said he wasn't going to hunt you down, that you would have to find him." The managers demeanor changed and he replied, "Oh, so he said that, did he?" :) I just wanted him to know that he wasn't dealing with a normal guest, but a real jerk. Oh, and he was saying the whole time over that he was going to demand that the CM who wouldn't let him ride in the handicap car get fired.

We arrived at Kona Cafe at 1, and only 6 tables were occupied! We were seated right away and had a great meal. I had a chicken and vegetable stir fry, with white rice. It also came with macaroni salad (which I can't stand) and they were very nice about substituting that for some lovely broccoli.

We went back to the room to relax. It was nasty cold out. Glen and Linnea decided to go to Epcot but I just didn't have warm enough clothes to join them. Plus I was pooped. That evening Linnea went on Test Track along with all the other Future World Favorites. (Which is everything except Mission:Space, and Ellen's ---since it was closed). They went on the new and improved Spaceship Earth, and made funny faces.

Brr! I had no IDEA that Florida got that cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have been WAY unprepared!!!!!
That's actually funny about the rude guest on the Monorail. We would have had a ball talking about him the rest of our trip. ;)
Was your meal at Kona a character meal or just a regular meal??

Kona was a regular meal. We didn't do any character meals this time around since I was experimenting with no ADR's.

What I love about Kona (which is in the Poly) is that the whole area is decorated in 1970's Waikiki. I grew up in Hawaii and have warm memories of that period, kitsch and all. Lots of rattan, an (over)abundance of Tikis, and the color scheme is orange and browns. It's truly a step back in time for me.

I can not believe that guest acted that way. Come on, I would have loved to stay on to find out what was said between the manager and guest though, oh to be a fly.
Can you believe of all the times we have been to MK we have never went over to Tom Sawyer's Island. We always say we will but never do.
I can't believe you didn't make any reservations that would have drove me crazy.

Kristi...

I didn't make any ressies because I knew Glen was going to have to work off and on. Also, Glen had been getting burned out of going to WDW, and I felt part of it was because it was too planned. So I wanted to try a trip that was much more relaxed. Luckily we had 10 days, so we never felt rushed.

Well, I can understand that, Troy is getting burned out also but he still wants the reservations. He loves Chef Mickeys and Coral Reef.

Coral Reef is a favorite. We've been there twice, and both times we walked in. I don't think too many people know it's there. It is kind of tucked back in a corner.

We've never been to Chef Mickey's, but we may need to plan that for our next trip. I have heard so many positive things about it.

OMG, Chef Mickeys is so much fun. The kids love the sundae topping bar

Chef Mickey's is the one meal I can guarantee we are doing on our next trip to Disney World. It sounds like a blast, and gets wonderful reviews.
I can't believe the cold either. When I heard on the news that it snowed in Florida, I felt so bad for you guys.

When we went to Coral Reef (right at opening, we had first seating time) it was packed and there were people to get to ressies for later that day and nothing was available. We want to try Chef Mickey's as well, but don't know when we'll be able to, hopefully on my mom's birthday/Christmas trip Dec 2010.

I forgot to comment on the rude man on the monorail.....I would have had a hard time keeping my mouth shut (and I'm like Kristi, would want to know what happened and what was said). People like that thing the world should be handed to them on a silver platter no less, blah! Grow up!
