I have seen so many websites that tell you not to take your child to Disney until they are older, or around 5. I do not believe this one bit. We had the oppotunity ot have 3 day park hopper passes for Disneyland and I, being the planner that I am, started looking up rides that our 19 month old could go on. I got scared by looking at the height requirements for the rides. Then I found this website and it helped us realize that there was plenty to do for her. We had a great trip, even though she had a little cold, she loved it. So if you have the chance to take you baby or toddler to Disneyland, I fully recommend it, we loved it so much we even got annual passes!
I would definately recommend taking snacks and a little cooler with you as well. We were able to take in a cooler lunch box from Walmart that fit in the bottom of the stroller. It saved us lots of time from waiting in lines, and money. It was great because we had her favorite snacks available, and didn't have to risk feeding her something she would not like. They do have healthy options now, they have fruit available at most kiosk snack stands, as well as little milks and fruit juices. One thing that was a great find was apple crisp chips. It is dehydrated apples that crunch like a potato chip, it is 3.00 for a bag, and each bag has 3 smaller bags in it. Each little bag contains the size of 1 apple. She loved them and it was healthy as well.
To help her prepare for the rides and the things she would see, we looked up videos of each ride to help us. On this site there are some great ones to see, as well as typing in the ride name and video on google. I believe that you can find DVDs of the parks as well.
We were able to ride all the rides that are listed in the Totally Tigger's top ten tips for Disneyland, and they have added some new ones as well.
~Peter Pan's flight- Ahead of us was a couple with their 9 month old daughter, who giggled in delight on this ride. They told us they were able to ride almost all of the rides in toontown with no height restriction, and a lot of the fantasyland rides. Our daughter liked this ride, but it was a little dark in the beginning.
~Pirates of the Caribean- I will say that this ride can be dark at times, and you do get wet. The characters do look real and she liked finding the puppies and kitties on hte sides. Other than that, our daughter enjoyed this ride.
~Mr. Toad's Wild Ride- This one is okay, a little jerky because it is supposed to be an old toad driving crazily through everything. This was our daughter's first actual ride and she didn't know what to think.
~Autotopia- This one does have a height requirement of 32 in or a year old. So if your child is around that age you will be able to enjoy this ride. It is the one where you drive the car around a track and they give you an auto license card.
~Haunted Mansion- ALthough there is not a height limit on this ride, you may want to be careful. Our daughter did not like the walk-through part and cried, but once we got on the actual ride she was fine and liked the music.
~Buzz Lightyear Blasters- This one is fun and gives you laser guns to shoot targets, these lasers became a game between my husband and I. She liked this ride. Only afterward did I realize that there is a black knob that allows you to turn te car around to shoot more targets, my husband however knew this all along. Yea, he beat me. Take advantage of fastpass on this one!
~Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage- She was scared at first because it is a tight space and dark. The submarine noises scared her a little, but once she started seeing the characters she was fine and kept saying bubbles. If your child knows who Nemo is they will like this ride a lot. It was fun for Mommy and Daddy too. The wait was long, but not too bad. It said it would be 60 mins, but we were getting on the ride after 40 mins.
~Alice in Wonderland- We did not get to ride this ride, but we spoke with a couple who had a 15 month old son. They said he liked it, but wasn't his favorite ride.
~Sleeping Beauty's Walkthrough Castle- We did this one right before we left because there was no line for it. Our daughter enjoyed running up the stairs and Daddy helped picking her up to see the scenes from Sleeping Beauty. I am not sure how fun this would have been for a toddler who had to wait in a long line, then go slowly through the castle.
At DCA there were more attractions for us to enjoy than rides, but we loved it all the same.
~Monster's Inc- My husband's favorite kiddie ride ever, just for the pure fact of repeating Mike Wyzowski ( sp?). The queue line is okay with lots of things to look at, it seems like you are in the transport station in the movie. The ride takes you through the movie basically and our DD loved saying Mike after daddy did. A cute ride overall.
~Muppet's 3-d show- Good and bad. We wnet on this during one of the final shows when our daughter was a little bit tired, his was great because they take you into a prop room and have lots of TV's getting you ready for the show. People were sitting/laying down so she thought it was really fun to lay down then sit up and watch other people. Once in the theater she wouldn't wear the 3-D glasses but enjoyed the show. It is 24 mins long, so if you are worried about having to leave in the middle of it, I just reccommend sitting all the way to the right near the doors. We had 2 families leave during the show and it doesn't interrupt anything at all.
~Disney's Playhouse Live show- Great show if you children watch playhouse disney, little einsteins, handy mandy, or the mickey mouse clubhouse show. Our daughter has only seen the mickey show a couple times so she didn't know hte characters. Regardless, she loved the show. They spout out bubbles, tissue paper leaves, and streamer from the ceiling which all the kids loved. However, we put on her monkey leash backpack thankfully, she tried to run on the stage quite a few times and got upset when she couldn't. So, if you have a child that wants to be right there and might run, I recommend sittign in the back or on the side to help.
